Well it will be a bit of a short update tonight as we have company in from out of town (Michelle, our maid of honor), and this is her room I'm writing from! You may have noticed no run update yesterday. That's because I never got a run in. Was too busy at work to take lunch off, then had our engagement photos (very fun with the craziest Polish Photographer I've ever met. Well I guess I haven't met any other crazy Polish photographers, but he was great). Then headed to get some dinner and had a long talk and by the time we got home it was already 10 pm and 0 degrees out so going for a quick run around the block was out.
Not wanting to lose training time, I hit the gym today after work for a run that just didn't feel good. I tried different speeds, walking intervals, but I just couldn't get into it (no graph tonight, ipod's still out in the freezing car!). Spent about half an hour on the treadmill and did burn some calories and exercise the muscles but hoping to have a much better workout tomorrow night after I work representing the Museum at a local chocolate festival. I have such a long way to go to where I'll be ready for the race. And truth be told I know I won't TRULY by ready in the way I should had I been more disciplined w/ my training over a longer period of time. I was feeling kinda crappy about this tonight on the way home. But hey, there is still a month to go, I've been eating better and have more energy it seems, and even if I end up finishing at a turtle pace, I'm still going to finish and I'll still be with my two best friends in St. John. Couldn't ask for much more than that! And don't hesitate to comment if you are reading this! It helps me stay motivated.
I'll report tomorrow on what I hope will be a much better feeling workout. Should be fun as I think Ashley and Michelle are going to join me at the Y following my work event. I had a deep thought today while listening to some Jimmy Buffett on the treadmill (I don't really think you're supposed to have deep thoughts when listening to Jimmy B.) Maybe I'll report on that and write more tomorrow. I'm out for now.

The race is called the 8 Tough Miles:
He that survives this race, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of 8 Tough Miles.
He that shall live through this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil grill out with his neighbours,
And say 'Tomorrow is 8 Tough Miles day:'
Then will he strip his trousers and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on race day.'
Old people forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
TJ of the Hicks, Brian the Ready, and Brettenshire,
Be in their overflowing Claws freshly remembered.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And February 23rd shall never go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that runs this race with me
Shall be my brother; be he never again so stinky,
This day and a shower the next shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in Iowa, now asleep or hung-over
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That ran with us upon 8 Tough Miles day!
Okay, we can't let this great poet go by the name "anonymous." "Who are YOU?" the masses inquire?
I believe this great poet lives in the metropolis of Osaka and goes by the alias "DC3." Just a guess.
